7 BU I LD I NG STRONG FOUNDAT I ONS FOR THE YEARS AHEAD SCHOOL STRUCTURE, ORGANISATION & POLICY Visits to our School – Open Mornings Open Mornings are held each Autumn term, where we welcome parents to see the school in operation, ask questions and meet the staff. Visits are also available at other times by appointment. Please see our website for further details or call the school office. www.sonning.wokingham.sch.uk Admission Arrangements Sonning School has a distinctive Christian ethos which is at the centre of school life. We welcome applications from all members of the community, irrespective of faith, ability or aptitude although we do expect parents to respect the Christian ethos of our school. By law, children must begin full time education no later than the start of the term following their 5th birthday. At Sonning Primary, we admit children into the Foundation Stage (F2) each September. The school is a partner in the coordinated admission arrangements with Wokingham Borough Council and follow their timetable. However, it is the Governing body of the school who decides the admission arrangements. Prospective parents should receive an application pack from their local authority during November in the year before their child’s admissions to school. Applications must be submitted by mid-January the following year. Admissions are determined by the school’s own admissions criteria, please refer to our Admissions Policy on the school website for full details of the criteria and the school catchment area. Starting School Parents are usually advised of allocated places by their local authority in the April before the September start date. At Sonning Primary, we invite new parents to a welcome evening in June, where you will meet the Foundation team, receive an induction pack, together with information about the practicalities of starting school. The children will be invited to two induction sessions in June/July where they can get to know the school environment, meet their teacher and some of their new classmates. When they start with us they will continue with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. As a Church of England primary school providing education for up to 210 children, we are a one form entry school (one class per year group) with 7 classes of children aged 4 – 11years. The school is organised into three phases with specialist staff across the school to ensure children flourish in their education. 7255 - Sonning School Prospectus 2021_12pp_A4_AW.indd 7 27/01/2021 16:44
